This Rapido Trains brand product is very accurate out-of-the-box.
I added a few enhancements to make my model prototypical circa 1991.
Below: The prototype circa 1991. The class lights have been removed, flag logos have been applied to the battery box doors, and safety
slogan stickers added in the step wells. Note these are special step wells designed to enhance safety when switching - Rapido's model
replicates this detail, as well as practically every other item seen here. Thanks to the photographer for sharing this image online.
Below: I added the flag and safety slogan markings using home-made decals. Otherwise, my model is stock.
Below: On the top, rust and black colored powdered chalks replicate exhaust build-up.
Below: I weathered my model using powders, followed with a spray of dull-cote. I'm not sure why, but some areas
"silvered" and look somewhat like faded, peeling paint. I thought this was an interesting effect and left it as-is.
